Mediumship Today

It is a sad realisation that Mediumship is not what it used to be.   Since the end of the second world war, things have taken a destictive dip.   Yes there are still  good mediums about, but not like there used to be.      Take the modern day platform medium, how many today "Cast the Net" so to speak, throw out  the communicator to the open crowd, which often gets many people accepting a name,   Bye the time it is sorted out, 10/15 minutes of valuable communication time has been lost.    It is also a situation which enables the "meassage grabbers" an open platform to claim everything and anything that comes their way.     What happened to going directly to a person and telling them that they have a communicator wanting to make a link with them.   How did we get into this messey situation that we are in today.

I see the problem as, trying to achieve something before they are ready.   Training, or lack of it, platform mediums being up there before they are ready.   How often these days do you get really good philosopy.   Not very often from my experiences and when you do get it, the mediumship is often sadly lacking.

Even Physical Mediumship has taken a real hammering.   Those great physical mediums of the past where scrutinised , tested, and retested and in some cases, to breaking point.  Many have been accussed of fraudulent practises and one even faulesly jailed for it.   Today we have very few physical mediums, and these could not even hold a candle to the great mediums of the past, and those who choose to make themselves know to the public are pretty unscrupulas anyway.  Ego is much more important, mediums who are interested in one thing, "Money" the "Big Buck".   In many cases there is not even communication from a loved one, NO PROOF of survival.   Isn't that what it is all about, bringing forward those who have made the transition and coming back to prove that life is eternal to those that they have left behind?

Your remarks re the lack of good evidence and good physical mediums since the end of the second world war..............

What was going on during the world war's that aided the developement of all forms of mediumship? Mass loss, every household was touched by the same plight, their was a deep understanding and compassion shown to each other, I think in part it was this understanding of loss and the true spirit of communites that aided the developement especially of physical mediumship.............people had true empathy for each other, the loss of someone in your street was felt by every neighbour, it was this sense of pulling together I believe that helped create the right environment for such developement within the home circles to flourish.

Yes I agree Jo, that was the case then, but not now and since that time things have gone down hill dramatically. that true empathy no longer exists, the loss of someone in the street doesn't even get a decent whip round for a wreath, and there is no sence of pulling together, so bang goes the right environment. If as you say these were the right things that created the right environment, then it is a sad fact that it does not appear to be here to-day and as a result my statement stands. Mediumship has taken a destinctive dip and no good evidence is generally forthcoming.

Hello folks as you will probably know I visited The Arthur Findley College for a couple of days as a guest on the JV trust week where I was well treated by the organizers and had an eventful and fruitful time there. The only thing that did not sit well with me was the divine service where the platform party were using the throwing out or fishing method which did not come up to the standards expected and some would even say it was cold reading.

I then went on to the SNU AGM which was another eventful and rewarding time for me however it was not so with the NEC with most off their proposals being flung out and I do not wish to comment on them as they come under the heading of politics. What I will comment on is when the NEC were challenged by a delegate about this throwing out method used by SNU mediums and the President retorted it was never a directive by the NEC and mediums were free to choose what-ever method that suited them and we know this is not the case and it seems the NEC have done a splendid u turn. A similar question was put to the healing committee about how trainee healers are taught and the answer given was the healing medium can use any method they and their inspirer's choose provided that no delicate parts be touched and this is another unbelievable u turn. We all know that trainees who do not work the way they are taught by the tutors will be failed and this is a travesty because no two tutors teach the same way. At long last the NEC. of the SNU are seeing the light and maybe now they can try and put the spiritual back into spiritualist and stem the unrest in the movement. L&L JOCK
